I was told by my LTD insurer to apply for CPP Disability which I did 8 months ago. My insurer asked for an update recently and I've been calling CPP the past few weeks and getting updates but that the application is still in process. The most recent letter from my insurer states that if CPP doesn't come to a decision by the end of this month then they will deduct the maximum allowable CPP Disability amount from my monthly payment. What should I do to help move my application along so that this doesn't happen?
First, you could advise CPPD of what your LTD insurer has threatened. That may put you at the front of the queue.
Next, I would paper your efforts in applying for, and following-up with CPPD (meaning, get email evidence of this), and send that to your LTD insurer, and state that you do not think it's fair that they're potentially going to penalize you for CPPD's delay, when it's not at all your fault or within your control.
If this actually happens, and they start to deduct CPPD even though you still haven't received a decision, you should contact us again, because you may have a claim against the insurer.
