Hi, I have stage IV medistatic melanoma on my liver. I'm receiving immunial therapy and have been for a year and 4 months. I just turned 71 years old Mar 04, 2024. My employment status is that of still employed, but on medical disability. I was able to collect short term disability. Because I'm over 65 years old I don't qualify for long-term disability. I was only given 28 weeks of federal disability EI Disability. They won't give me any more. I keep on hearing that I'm one of the ones that have fallen between the cracks. I'm presently not receiving any income except regular CPP. Is there anything I can do? I work for the city of Calgary. They are holding my job for me and even gave me a raise. Gordon Macaulay

I'm very sorry to read about your condition.

Regarding LTD, if your policy terminates at 65, then there's likely nothing that can be done on that front, unfortunately.

In terms of other government benefits that may be available to you, please see our website at: https://stlawyers.ca/disability-law/faq/government-income-support-programs/ (not an exhaustive list).

Lastly, regarding employment-related questions, since this is the LTD/disability branch of the firm, I'm going to recommend that you post those questions to our free employment questions website at, www.terminationquestions.com.

If you still have further questions, and you’re non-unionized, you can reach-out to our intake team for further assistance. If you are unionized, you will need to speak with your union representatives.
