Hi, I am on LTD and have been refer to a psychiatrist by my doctor, and the wait time is 1~2 months. In this period, I am continue to get medical treatment by my doctor.
The insurance company insist on me to go to their psychiatrist saying the wait time for 1~2 months is too long. If I did not follow, they will cut off my benefits. What are my options? Should I see the psychiatrist or wait in the queue for psychiatrist my doctor refers? (I am 32 and non-union)
Thanks for your question. It's a bit of a tricky situation to navigate but you do have options. You can start with asking your insurer where in your LTD policy it states that you're obligated to receive treatment by their specific doctors (as opposed to your own doctors). Often, insurers don't have this right. I would also recommend that you connect with our Disability Specialist Rebecca, at rebecca.stap@stlawyers.ca so that we can gather a bit more information and discuss your options (at no cost).
