I'm receiving LTD from my insurance carrier. The definition changes in Feb 2025 and they are asking me to complete a form (training, education, work history). Can they do that? They also state that the availability of work is not considered in assessing disablility. However, I was laid off and will my current medical problems will have a hard time finding gainful employment that would equal 50% of my earnings. They also say that I am responsible to call but I'm not sure what to tell them because I'm also running into some healthcare challenges, ie: images, doctors etc. What should I do?

This is a fairly standard form that insurers request. They will use it as part of their determination on whether or not they think you'll meet the new definition of total disability in February. They should also be considering your own medical support in this decision. Keep in mind, if your insurer tries to end your benefits before your doctors clear you to return to work, contact us ASAP so we can help.
While on LTD, you do have an ongoing responsibility to communicate with your insurer. If you don't, they may try to end your benefits for non-compliance. Answer their questions honestly, and keep notes of what is discussed.
