Ask your question and a Long-term Disability Lawyer in Canada will answer in minutes
I recently received my cppd application approval but I can't find anyone to further discuss the details stated on my approval letter. I have a few questions, although my main misunderstanding is in regards to my retrospective amount, where that amount is going and why.. I appreciate your time reviewing my question and look forward to hearing back, Thanks!
Typically, retroactive payments do go to the LTD insurer, and then your LTD insurer will get a credit for what CPPD pays you on a monthly basis going forward. For example, if you're receiving $2,000 from LTD and are approved $1,000 from CPPD, your insurer would then pay you $1,000 for LTD and the other $1,000 comes from CPPD.
Also, if you haven't already, you can apply for the disability tax credit to help with the tax implications of CPPD.
