if you pay into insurance when your working through work why do insurers require you pay them any retroactive cppd,,when clearly this affects your pension at 65 it seems like a loose loose situation for the disabled as usual,, i was on wcb before a no compensable disability took over,, my cppd retroactive approved from june 2022 to may 2024 ltd never gave me my first cheque until october of 2022,, i should be entitled to the retroactive from june until sept i hope,, also my disability worker through work said ltd was running in the background when i was on wcb i sure hope this doesnt affect my retroactive money,, not bad enough disabled have to live on 70% of there wages and there is no cost of living increase for 4 years they have to take any extra we get too,, already struggling and pretty much lost all my savings im almost ready to say forget it and go back to work even though i cant work,, its so frustrating when you cant survive on pennies and you cant work even when you want to,, are the insurance companies out to take any disabled entitlement they can? they seem like icbc all crooked,,, cant even afford anything,, how do i get ahead when they take half ,also i have child rearing cpp from my ex i didnt apply for it but i hope they dont take that too
I'm sorry to hear about your situation. You should ask your case manager to show you, in writing, where in your LTD policy it states they're entitled to the CPPD retroactive amount. They are only entitled to that if the LTD policy states they are.
In terms of the tax ramifications for CPPD as well, if you haven't already, you can apply for the disability tax credit to help offset any tax amounts, and it can be retroactively applied for 10 years. I recommend speaking with Disability Credit Canada (https://disabilitycreditcanada.com/) for more information and assistance with the DTC. You can let them know we referred you there.
