I have been off work since Dec 2020, and have been on LTD since March 30th 2021. I have been diagnosed with PTSD (due to a tramatizing work incident), mood disorder, anxiety and depression from both my doctor and through an IME that Sunlife suggested I do. After the IME, my LTD was given an early extension past the 2 year mark as I was deemed, unable to work at ANY occupation. Since that, my insurance advisor has changed again (this is about the 5th or 6th time) and this person is calling me more frequently and always asking me about returning to work. Recently, out of the blue, she told me she wanted to participate in OT through them. I told her I didnt want to do this, and my doctor, or any other insurance agent had never suggested it before. She alluded that I was obligated to participate in whatever treatment they suggest. Is it true that they can force me to do any treatment? I feel like she is trying to force me into the "back to work" track against my will. The pressure I feel from her is increasing my anxiety and not helping my recovery anyway.

I'm sorry to hear that things have taken a turn with your insurer. You can ask your insurer, in writing, where in your LTD policy it states they have the right to state that you need to attend this treatment. If they insist that you need to attend, and your doctors disagree with that, your doctors should communicate that clearly to your insurer. You should not be forced back to work against your own doctors wishes. If that happens, or if they try to threaten your benefits, please contact us ASAP and we will help (phone number is listed below).
