I am on LTD with Manulife, and I would like to fly from Ottawa to Toronto to visit a family member for 3 days. What precautions should I take to ensure my benefits do not get cancelled? I’ve contacted Manulife about terms and conditions of my policy, and they can only refer me to a case manager. Could you please advise me on whether this is necessary and whether to get approval from my doctor first?

Generally, such sort service trips, especially within the same province, are not detrimental to your claim. Most policies do list travel limitations, but they are often for longer terms (1-3 months) and include leaving the province or country. You can ask your case manager for your policy, or for the travel restrictions listed in such.
If your insurer tries to give you a hard time for a 3 day trip within Ontario, please let us know and we will help
