Should the insurer propose a graduated return to work plan to my employer, and seek approval for this graduated return to work plan from my employer, before speaking with me, or my doctor?

The ability to participate in a gradual return to work plan should ultimately come down to what you and your doctors support. If your health team doesn't think you're ready to return, they should communicate that clearly to the insurer. If the insurer still tries to push you or threaten your benefits after that, please give us a call at the number below to discuss next steps. They should never be pushing you to work before your medically cleared.
In terms of speaking with the employer first, often this is done just to confirm if your employer has the ability to accommodate any requirements you may need before starting a plan.
