I went on Illness and injury leave for 3 months which was supported by a doctors note. When the 3 months were over, I needed to extend it for another 3 months which would cover my ei eligibility for illness and injury leave. When I sent the extension note from my doctor my workplace told me that I needed to apply for LTD or I would face termination or have to go back to work. Are they allowed to legally make me apply for LTD?

Typically, the decision to apply for LTD should come from you and your doctor. That said your employer's policy may be that LTD is required for any extended absences. We would need to gather more information to be able to give a detailed response. Please contact our employment team at 1-855-821-5900 to discuss what your employer is telling you and determine next steps

That said, if you are denied LTD, let us know ASAP and we will help.
