Ask your question and a Long-term Disability Lawyer in Canada will answer in minutes
Federal Employee - Sunlife Benefits - Investigation - I learned a few weeks ago that I was under investigation/review. They asked for documents, which I provided. Since then, they have not issued a new decision, but they won't answer my questions. I asked, "What is the status of my claim?" , they haven't provided an answer. I am also not getting any information about how long my file will be under review, how long before they issue a decision about something, what's at risk. I asked, but they ignored my question. Literally, they acknowledge receiving the email and voicemail, said they will look at my document, that my benefits for last month was "released" (from what... I don't know). They are keeping me in the dark. Is this legal? Also, what are the normal processing times for a review once they have all the documents? What is considered reasonable? Can they really keep me in a state of "terror" about my benefits for weeks without providing information? What are my recourse while waiting? Please note that to my knowledge, last decision on file is approval until 2027.
Unfortunately, there isn't a set timeline for these sorts of reviews but they do seem to usually last several weeks.
If you have provided them with all the information they requested already for the investigation, you could give them a deadline to respond for them to respond by X date (1-2 weeks), or you'll be speaking with a lawyer. Sometimes that 'threat' is enough to get a response.
Please reach out again if there are further issues and we'll review
