I’m in my early 50’s and I’m on long-term disability due to mental health. I’m approaching the change of conditions period. My insurance company wants me to have a IPE that they arrange because I have been waiting a long time to get a psychiatry appointment through my doctor. Should I be concerned!

This is quite common while on LTD, especially nearing the change of definition. The insurer is likely looking to determine if they feel you will be eligible to continue to receive benefits and trying to streamline the assessment as you've been waiting long. I recommend that you review our FAQ guide on this topic (https://stlawyers.ca/disability-law/faq/ime-long-term-disability/) as a starting point. This should help you understand what to expect and how to prepare.
Ultimately, if the insurer tries to use this against you, let us know ASAP and we will help. If you have further questions or concerns, you can reach out to our disability specialist, Rebecca, at rebecca.permis@stlawyers.ca and she can assist (at no charge!)
