After doctor and I submitted Manulife forms 26Apr2023 (for stress-related STD medical leave with depression disorder diagnosis), we were both unsure of implications of indicating "work-related", so we shrugged our shoulders and checked "work-related" on forms.
Manulife then told me yesterday to contact WCB because we indicated "work-related" on forms. Wondering if that was a mistake and I'm stressed/concerned about delays + getting less than 100% wage coverage because that allows me to just break even, whereas Manulife benefit plan would have covered 100% salary up to 16wks STD if not work-related.
Per Manulife case worker, I can't revise/resubmit claim but they said if WCB denies my claim as work-related, then Manulife would kick in and cover. My regular pay stopped 18Apr2023 (last day worked) and last pay cheque was received 28Apr2023 but now I'm concerned about how long it may take for WCB to vet my claim and start paying me OR if not, now long it will take to switch back to Manulife to cover me and start paying.
Spoke to employer's HR rep this a.m., they concurred and initiated WCB claim today and told me to await instruction. Per my research, WCB will only cover 90% of net salary to $102,700 cap (my gross is $112K and this past year with commissions I've average $145K from 21Mar2022 start date to end Apr2023). Until I speak with WCB, I have no feel for how much they'll deduct at source so I'm concerned about my immediate cashflow. Important to note that I'm also in a Consumer Proposal (past 12 months) so I cannot afford to get underwater financially because this will create a world of hurt for me (and this doesn't help my mental health).
Is there anything I should be aware, say or not say to WCB when they contact me? Also, do you have a feel for how long this process can take (days or weeks)? Also, per videos I've watched, I understand WCB tends to focus on and expect more tangible/physiological symptoms to take claims seriously. What are the odds they'll deny my claim? Would that perhaps be the better outcome so I can get 100% benefit from Manulife? Is there something I can or should do/say to potentially influence WCB's decision? Ideally, a phone call would be preferable asap so I can better understand the moving parts here and be prepared for when WCB contacts me. I look forward to speaking with you as soon as possible and can be reached at 403-919-6807 or jackpastuszko@gmail.com.
I'm going to email you about this directly.
