Ask your question and a Long-term Disability Lawyer in Canada will answer in minutes
Canada Life is wanting to have me apply for Canada Disability to supplement the Canada Life payments. How does this affect/effect any Canada Life payments, CPP, etc.?
Typically, most insurance policies give the insurer the right to offset your benefit by what CPPD pays.
This means, if you're currently receiving $2000 from LTD, and are approved $1000 from CPPD, your insurer will then only need pay you $1000 monthly as the rest comes from CPPD. Most policies also say that if you refuse to apply, they can estimate what they think CPPD would pay you, and reduce your benefits accordingly. I recommend reviewing our FAQ on this topic (https://stlawyers.ca/disability-law/faq/cpp-long-term-disability/) and if you still have questions, please contact our disability specialist, Rebecca, at rebecca.stap@stlawyers.ca for more information (at no charge!)
Additionally, we have a paralegal who assists with CPPD claims if you have questions about the application process or run into any issues. You can reach Brandon at brandon.ferrante@stlawyers.ca
