I had a brain tumor surgery in May/2023 and I am currently receiving chemotherapy treatments. The treatment will last until May 2034. I am unable to work due to my illness. I was receiving short term disability for a few months and then my employer stopped those payments. They told me to go to employment insurance, which I did. A few months after I applied for those I started receiving employment insurance payments. However I also started receiving LTD payments from my company’s insurance. Can I be receiving both payments at the same time? I cannot support myself on just one of those payments, but I don’t want to have issues with employment insurance not the private insurance company.
You will need to review your LTD policy to see what it says about offsets. Your insurer may be entitled to offset your LTD payments by what you receive by EI. As we don't handle EI specific matters here though, you should ask the EI office for more information regarding your EI benefits.
