I was approved for Short-Term Disability and now on Long-Term Disability. My Return-to-Work date was on the horizon and my GP and I came-up with a GRTW Plan for 4 hours/day x 4 weeks and 5 hours/day x 8 weeks which would be reassessed prior to the 12 week mark.

While I was awaiting my Healthcare Provider's GRTW Plan, I had a follow-up appointment with the insurance company. They stated while they waited for the documentation, could I please provide an outline on GRTW hours so they could prepare for the RTW process on their end.

I stated the plan and the hours mentioned above (as they were at half the capacity of my full-time job at 40 hours / week) and they in-turn stated that based on the hours outlined I may not be ready to go to work and a GRTW is usually no more than 8 - 10 weeks and the wanted to a successful RTW.

I am slightly confused as I was attempting to go back to work but at the capacity I could at this time and was told by Canada Life that I may not be ready. In-turn, I was asked to provide supplementary information supporting additional time off from work, when this was only requested in the event I was unable to return to work.

I need guidance on how to proceed as I am unsure what is happening in this instance as I was ready to do a GRTW at a reduced capacity.

This is a bit of a unique situation. Generally, insurers should be following your doctors recommendations regarding GRTW plans. I recommend giving our office a call at the below number so we can discuss this in more detail.
