Hi,
I’m applying for the LTD within my work group benefits. I’ve been off work due to work injury and have been on WSBC wage loss benefits for 17 months. My WSBC payments will be cut off in a week or so. I can’t came back to work because of a chronic pain in my ankle. How long does it take to start getting long therm disability payments after I file the application?
If there are not gonna be payments for a while, can I apply for a welfare (social assistance)?
Thank you,
Best regards,
Larissa.

Each insurer is different, but it can take a few weeks for an approval to go through. You'll want to make sure your doctor and employer also submit their part of the application quickly, as the insurer needs all 3 parts to consider an application.
You may be eligible for social assistance in the meantime, but you would need to contact the organization themselves for qualifying criteria, and you'll want to ensure that you tell your insurer if you're receiving other income.
