I am a 35 year old female that has been on LTD in Alberta since July 29th, 2021 (so almost two years, today is July 18th, 2023). I have been diagnosed with MDD, PTSD, as well as ADHD, and have been following all medication and treatment plans from my medical team. My MDD & PTSD began in July 2020.
My company terminated my employment April, 2023. They did not give me much time to review the offer properly, my employer and my insurance company could not help me in advance showing my payments/ deduction amounts. I was paid out
vacation pay and severance (and would not agree to set any of those amounts under what I believe is called “general damages”, to assist with the stress and taxes. The insurance company deducted 11 weeks of my LTD payments, leaving me in financial hardship at the very last minute. I didn’t know what to do, so I withdrew money from what I thought was a savings/different type of account… But it actually was a non locked in RRSP fund. I am worried that the insurance company will take that amount from me and my future payments, which would put me in a detrimental financial situation. If I got a loan from a family member and put it back, would that offset any of my stresses or issues, or do I have any other options? Seems like a unique situation.
The insurance company has asked me to apply for CPP disability. The forms will be completed this week. They said for my
Doctor to send the invoice to Service Canada. My doctor says the Government will only pay $85, and I would owe them $215. Would the insurance company not have to pay for this, as it is their request?
If I am approved for CPP disability (says it can take 3-6 months), will that effect my all source maximum amounts, or my taxes for 2023? How will the insurance deduct CPP Disability back payments, if there are any?
I am stressed worse dealing with the insurance company, this has been noted by my doctors.
My independent medical assessment is set for next week.
I am spinning and don’t know what to do next.
I'm going to email you about this directly.
