34-year-old female from Alberta. I had a pregnancy-related heart attack 3 years ago but a year after that I had to get an LVAD(left ventricular assisted device). I have a little pump next to my heart that pumps my blood and a cord that comes out of my belly that it hooks up to a controller that hooks up the batteries and I'm on 24/7. I can't do my previous job just due to machines and I'm not allowed around them. My LTD insurance company called me the other day and it's telling me that I have to go back to work by December 18th otherwise I'm going to lose my benefits. I do I do plan on going back to work but not till after I get a heart transplant which I go on the list for in the fall. Because I cannot do my previous job until I get the lvad out of my chest but they want me to try to do an office job which I have no training for andare constantly for the last year been harrassing me about going to work. With this device I don't feel safe going , even for office work, because if something happens know one at work has had the training needed to deal with it. My husband had to have training so I could go home from hospital. My question is what can I do about my insurance company?
I'm so sorry to hear what you've been going through. In short, your insurer should not be sending you back to work unless your doctors have cleared you to work.
