In 2018 I suffered from a severe psychotic episode and was diagnosed with schizophrenia. In the last year I have been pretty depressed about work due to a change of teams. The new team is technically more challenging and combined with my cognitive decline from my mental illness made work very stressful. I'm not able to focus well, have poor memory and have a hard time retaining new information. In August of this year I started having suicidal thoughts, went to the doc and was told to take time off work. I'm currently on short term disability for my depression and have applied for long term disability as I'm still waiting on my psychiatric treatment plan. Will there be a good chance of it getting approved? I'm not sure if I'll be able to return to my job in the future as I have lots of anxieties with work due to cognitive issues from my illness. What options do I have? I've thought about quitting my job and getting an easier lower paying job.
