Add Comment Question: I am a 62 year old unionized delivery driver who has been off work for over two years on short and long term disability due to a back problem. Our insurance provider is Desjardins. After numerous treatments which have had little effect it has been determined that I cannot return to my previous job. My employer will not offer any alternative work. Desjardins had me do a transferable skills analysis which determined that there were a couple of sedentary jobs that I could be eligible for with some additional training( such as Word or Excel ) and that I would be cut off from receiving benefits at the end of October 2026, close to my 63rd birthday. This seems to me to be clearly just a means to get me off their books. If I did what they suggest, any prospective employer would have to accommodate my significant physical limitations, would have to accept my barest of minimal qualifications, my complete lack of experience, my need for significant on the job training, the fact that I would only work there for at most two years and would have to pay me above entry level pay for the position. This all seems beyond unlikely to me. I do not have enough knowledge or experience on the subject to even know what my rights and responsibilities are in this situation. I am not willing to simply accept Desjardins ruling on the matter. would this be something your office could offer some advice and information on? Answer: Im sorry to hear this is happening.
