Add Comment Question: In Feb 2025 it will be 2 years since cancer diagnosis and all the treatements (the last surgery is in Jan 2025). In july 2025 it will the be magical 2 year mark of "definition of occupation". I am starting to feel the pressure from insurer to provide documents by x date, even though that test hadn't occured yet. Discussions have been if i am not physically able to return to work...i have a sendentary role...I don't need to be fully recovered (their words). My actual role is a senior project manager, placed there by a "constructive dismissal" tactic. It is a high level and high performing, highly demanding role. currently, I don't think i will have the mental and emotional capacity to deal with that work environment in Jul 2025. I live on my own with a mortgage, I cant afford to be suddenly cut off and so i am planning for the future...ensure i know my choices. PS I know my doctors will support a mental health leave both family doctor and therapist. Answer: The most important thing to remember as you approach that change of definition point is to try and provide the insurer with strong medicals supporting that you remain disabled from working in any occupation, provided that's true. There's unfortunately not a whole lot else to be done before that point, but to continue to meet your policy terms (receive treatment, communicate with your insurer, etc.) If you do receive notice at any point that your insurer wants to end your benefits, call us ASAP and we will help. Also, if you have any questions between now and that point, please feel free to contact our disability specialist, Rebecca, at rebecca.stap@stlawyers.ca, and she will be able to assist you (at no charge) Your Comment * Your Email * Your Name * Your City Note, your name, city and email is not displayed on the website.
