Add Comment Question: I am 73 years old and still working. I have been with the company approximately 23 years and was actively involved in the growth of the company. Recently my prostate cancer ( which I have had for 12 years) has become worse and I have to undergo treatment. Suspecting that I may have to miss some time from work, I asked HR what happens to my pay if I am off. I was told that they would give me a ROE and I would have to apply for Unemployment insurance for my time off. Of course this would me a reduction in my pay which I felt was just not right. I would be punished by losing some of my pay for getting sick, and the company would therefore profit by my absence. I am the most senior employee there and have one of the best attendance records. I am a middle manager earning $74500k with an excellent work record. Do I have a valid concern Answer: Based on the little information that we have, it sounds like your employer may be correct, provided that you don't also have access to Short-term disability benefits. If they do have STD, then you may be eligible to apply for that instead. I do however, recommend contacting our employment team at 1-855-821-5900 to discuss this in more detail.
