Add Comment Question: I am on LTD through Sunlife, my employers insurance company. However, I am unable to return to that company, my doctor has agreed with me. My question, if my doctor tells Sunlife I can not return, can they cut me off of LTD while I search for a new job? If they cannot cut me off, how long do I have to find new employment that is equivalent to the pay I was receiving while working? Answer: Your insurance company should not cut you off while you have medical support being off work. If they try, please let us know ASAP and we will help. If you cannot return to work, they should continue your benefits until the end your your benefit period (often age 65).
