Add Comment Question: After several months I won my appeal for getting Ltd.... In my last conversation with them before winning the appeal they asked if I was on medical ei. I said yes. They mentioned if my appeal was approved that they would reach out to EI on my behalf and they would deduct the backpay from what I've received from medical ei. That seems strange to me. Convenient but strange. I feel like they should now have to pay the whole time period and the ei gets erased as if I was never on it and used up those hours/time period with them. Really hoping I just get a yes or no answer here or at least not a please contact us directly. This should be general information available to the public/the point of this website. And I really appreciate this website/your tv show. Makes us all feel a little more empowered when dealing with these matters that can really vary depending on the situation and can read the answer on this website. Thank you in advance. Answer: Thanks for the kind words on our show. Your insurer has the right to reduce your payments by what you receive from other sources, if it's listed in your LTD policy. You should check your LTD policy to see if they are entitled to offset for EI benefits. If it is, then they are allowed to do this.
