Add Comment Question: Hello, I’m 41 years old and stopped working in 2021 due to severe brain fog, visual snow, shaky brain syndrome (I’ve been working with an eye doctor, eye specialist and neurologist). Recently I was diagnosed with an autoimmune disease by a naturopath. I’ve been paying into CPP since I was 17. Conventional medicine has not helped me with blood work and after seeing a naturopath my bloodwork shows the severe immune and thyroid issues. Even my hair is falling out. My symptoms have been so bad that I had to stop working and leave my profession with no income in four years. I can’t stare at computers or stand for too long due to circulation issues. My question is: in your opinion, are medical reports from naturopaths and eye specialists enough to qualify for CPPD or any BC Provincial benefits, or atleast enough to be worthy of applying for CPPD? Thank you kindly. Answer: Based on what you've provided, you should absolutely apply for CPPD. If the only medical professionals you can get to fill-out the paperwork are your naturopath and optometrist, then that's what you'll have to do, but it would be better if you had the support of at least one "MD" (medical doctor), such as a GP/family doctor, ophthalmologist, neurologist or psychiatrist. But again, even if you don't have the support of an MD, you should still apply. If denied, please let us know right away, as we have a CPPD specialist at the firm who can handle your appeal. If you have a Long-Term Disability (LTD) and/or Short-Term Disability (STD) policy that you, for some reason, haven't tried to access yet, you should apply right away. If denied, please let us know and we'll connect you with an LTD lawyer for a free call.
