Add Comment Question: Hello, I have been on Medavie-Blue cross LTD (through my employer) since 2023. I had shingles and it left me with Trigeminal nerve pain/damage in my forehead, scalp and eye. However, back in 1989 I had signed a disability policy with Confederation Life, which is now under Manulife, and it was for the amount of $2000 per month. I didn't put in a claim, as I understood I could only go through one company and Medaview-Blue Cross was for 66.7% of my wage so I disregarded the private policy. After all these years I was going to cancel my Confederation/Manulife policy but realized, (after reading my handbook), that I may be able to make a claim to Manulife, as Medavie-Blue cross does not include private disability policy's in their Integration of Benefits , direct offset plan-Income from all other sources. Can you confirm that "income from all other sources" excludes private policies? Shall I go ahead and make a claim for my private Confederation/Manulife policy? And would I still be eligible as my disability is from 2023? Would making a claim cause my Medavie-Blue Cross coverage to be disrupted or cut off? Should I inform Medavie-Blue cross of this finding? I was not intending to mislead either company, I just did not understand the policies. Thank you Answer: It will depend on the wording of the policy as a whole whether or not there is an offset, we cannot confirm unfortunately as each policy offset provision is different, and some do allow for offsets of other benefit providers. If you choose to apply, you should do so ASAP as there is typically a time limit to make applications for benefits. If it's denied for any reason, or you run into any issues with either insurer, don't hesitate to reach out and we will help.
