Add Comment Question: I've been on LTD since November 2024. My adjuster has already sent me for an FCE (February 2025) and threatened to cut off my benefits if I did not attend. I keep in regular contact with my adjuster, consistently updating her on appointments with my doctors. On June 11, I had a radiofrequency ablation on my lower back. While it has relieved some pain, I am still in quite a bit of pain. On June 16th, I had a phone call with my adjuster, I informed her that my pain doctor said I will need to have more ablations and the next one will be booked after July 25th. During this call, my adjuster said she wanted me to attend physiotherapy, which I am fine with. I received a call from someone else from the insurance company on July 3rd who stated that I would be contacted by a rehab clinic to set up physiotherapy appointments. Yesterday, July 8th around 7 PM, I received an email from the rehab clinic telling me they booked me 3 appointments over 2 days. The first day will be a 1 hour physiotherapy appointment followed immediately by a 40 min occupational therapy appointment. Then the next day would be an hour long kinesiology appointment. My doctor agreed to the physiotherapy but I haven't been able to talk to him about the occupational therapy or kinesiology as he's on vacation for 2 weeks. I wasn't even told in advance about these two. I also have an appointment at the end of August with a different doctor to discuss multiple cysts throughout my back which are in addition to the 6 herniated discs that caused me to go on LTD in the first place. I feel like my adjuster is trying to force me to return to work asap. Do I have to attend the occupational therapy and kinesiology? Answer: Thanks for your question. If they are asking you to be assessed by these doctors, you likely do have an obligation to attend. However, if they are asking you to be treated by them, you may not. You can ask your case manager where in the policy it states that you have to attend these appointments. Alternatively, you could ask that they be postponed until you've been able to discuss this with your doctor.
