Add Comment Question: I am currently on short term disability and my employers insurance company is requesting more information before continuing with my claim . My Doctor has asked me to advise them to request that with them which I did. The insurance company responded that at this time it is up to me to get the information from the doctor. I am confused. Answer: It's not uncommon for STD providers to request medical information through you, instead of the doctors directly (so they don't have to pay for the forms). It is, however, most important that the insurer does receive the medical support so they can evaluate your claim. You should speak with your doctor again, and inform them that your insurer is unwilling to request it directly from them, but they need to provide the medical information either to you or directly to the insurer ASAP so you can receive your benefits. You can also show your doctors office the correspondence from your insurer where it states they won't reach out directly. If there continues to be issues, please reach out to our disability specialist, Rebecca, at rebecca.permis@stlawyers.ca, and she will assist.
