Add Comment Question: I have returned to work on reduced hours.i Currently do 4 hours per day. Currently on ltd. I am a diabetic and was on ltd because of a toe amputation. I work in ontario in retail. My employer asked me to sign a letter where when business is slow they can reduce my hours to 32 hours from 40 hours. They are also laying people off. I am concerned how would this letter effect my ltd . Also if laid off effect my severance package. Can they force me to sign this letter. Answer: With regard to how this could impact your LTD benefits, unfortunately, it would depend on the terms of your specific policy (which of course I do not have). That said, the test for qualifying for LTD is one of functionality. So typically the availability of work is not a factor. If you're cut off benefits for any reason, please contact our firm right away and we'll connect you with a lawyer for a free consultation. With regard to the rest of your questions about your employment, I hate to move you around from one place to another, but you've connected to our LTD department, as opposed to our employment team – and those would really be employment matters. I recommend using our free employment questions website (www.terminationquestions.com) as a starting point.
