Add Comment Question: I stopped working in July 2024 and initially my doctor diagnosed me with depression. This was the same mental disorder I was off for in the past 2 years. The insurance company denied me. After visiting my psychiatrist 2 months after he diagnosed me with PTSD. The insurance company requested me to go for an independent assessment with their psychiatrist. I felt he was very biased towards me and made me feel very uncomfortable asking uncomfortable personal questions and was very unempathetic. He provided a report to my insurance company stating that I was "faking my symptoms" and requested I go gradually back to work. My family physician who is my primary doctor did a similar test requested by the insurance company's psychiatrist and my results came out with similar response with a slight improvement. My psychiatrist has also written a response to the insurance company stating I am not ready to go back to work and that my symptoms are normal given his knowledge of my past health and not fake as suggested. My family doctor has not written a note yet to the insurance company telling them I am not ready to return back as he is relying on the psychiatrist's letter sent to him which he forwarded to the insurance company. Should the family doctor be sending a separate note to report I am not ready to go back to work? If my family doctor and psychiatrist send a note indicating I should still be off work, can the insurance company force me back? Answer: Getting an additional letter of support from your GP/family doctor would typically increase your chances of getting approved.
