Add Comment Question: Insurance company has asked for clinical notes from my psychiatrist (submitted my APS) for the period of my short term disability. Short term has been approved by different company who has passed along all the documentation that were used to determine eligibility. Clinical records were not asked for until now. Dr. Said to talk to a lawyer before providing to make sure this request for clinical records for the period of my short term leave makes sense. Answer: Generally, your insurer does have the right to request and receive medical notes as they relate to the reason you're on or applying for LTD benefits. However, if you're unsure about providing them, you can ask your insurer to show you where in the policy it gives them the right to request this information. If they try to end your benefits for any reason or give you a hard time, please contact us ASAP (our number is below).
