Add Comment Question: My insurance company paid me for a short term disability period of two weeks in August 2022. I returned to work and went off again in November 2022 for the same related illness. It was considered a new STD claim because the two month recurrence period had passed. My STD claim period has ended and is now into LTD. My insurer now requires me to apply for CPP Disability and will deduct from my LTD benefit any CPP benefits I receive for the same or related disability, but one of the rules my insurer applies is the following: · benefits payable from other sources which began before the commencement of your current Disability will not be taken into account If CPP determines I was disabled before November 2022 does this mean all retroactive and current going forward CPP Disability benefits that I receive will not be deducted from LTD? Or does it mean only the CPP benefits related to the same period as my LTD will be taken into account and deducted? Answer: Generally, this would mean the later of what you mentioned. The insurer is entitled to offset CPPD/LTD payments for any period in which you also received LTD benefits.
