I'm working for almost 19 years for same company and I wanted to seek further clarification regarding my options surrounding long-term disability (LTD) and my return to work. Given my current health conditions, I am considering applying for LTD as my doctor has suggested, but I am unsure how this would impact my employment status with Specifically, I would like to understand:
1. Can I apply for LTD for a period of time, and if my health improves, return to work afterward?
2. What would the process of returning to work look like after LTD, especially regarding negotiating my position, ensuring accommodations for my health, and dealing with the possibility of termination or severance negotiations upon my return?
3. Are there any risks associated with opting for LTD first and then returning to work later, particularly in light of the ongoing situation with my job position being changed and the potential termination?
I want to make sure I’m fully informed of my rights and options before making any decisions. Your advice on this matter would be greatly appreciated.

1. Yes you can. If you're on LTD and you feel capable of returning to work, you would just inform your insurer of such
2. Your employer has a duty to accommodate you. if they don't, you may have a human rights claim against them
3. Again, your employer should be accommodating any return to work to a same or similar position. You should not be penalized for going on LTD. If your employer does try to penalize you, our lawyers can help (provided you are non-unionized. If you are unionized, you will need to speak with your union representatives).
