I have worked for my employer for 18 years and have paid into LTD group benefits since I started. I have never taken LTD in the past but am currently on LTD since April 2024 through Canada life due to going through a relapsing remitting multiple sclerosis diagnosis. My employer has contacted me and let me know that if I return they will give me a severance package as they have shut down operations in Ontario. Canada life made me apply for cpp-d and I was approved. Canada life is now saying they think I should try to go back to work. I told them my job is no longer available but they are telling me I have to try and even consider getting a new job. I feel it’s too risky to go back as they will terminate me and I will lose my benefits. My medication alone cost $1650 a month. I have extreme debilitating fatigue, pain, vision issues, bladder issues, cognitive challenges and occasional mobility issues but because my MRI is currently stable they feel I should work. I also do two full days a month at a hospital 2 hours from my home for IVIG infusions for at least the next year. I am so worried as I know I could be deemed uninsurable by other benefits companies and I can currently handle maybe two hours of anything a day. I struggle with simple housework. With RRMS anything could cause me to go into a relapse so I’m not sure what to do and would appreciate any help you could provide.

This is a very delicate legal situation, and you should consult with a lawyer right away to make sure no missteps are taken. I'm going to email you directly about this.
