My wife is transitioning from STD benefits to LTD benefits. The new LTD insurance company apparently has up to 6 months to make a decision. But in the meantime, my wife will not be receiving any payments for 6 months!!! Is she to just go without any money? Is there any program she can apply for in the meantime? The LTD insurance company has requested her to file for CPP disability which we are doing.

Typically, LTD insurers make a decision within 1-8 weeks. 6 months is not common.
That said, she may be eligible for EI sick benefits and CPP Disability. You can find more information on EI Sick here- https://www.canada.ca/en/services/benefits/ei/ei-sickness.html. Please note, CPP Disability does typically take 6+ months for a decision,
I'd encourage you to speak with our disability specialist, Rebecca, at rebecca.permis@stlawyers.ca, for more information. While we don't handle most government disability programs, she can help guide you through the LTD process and answer any other questions you may have.
