63 years old just diagnosed with cancer .dr said apply short term disability through work in order to be off work during aggressive treatment . Apply for long term after short term runs out if need more time off . Employer tells me to apply for long term till age 65 . My question is … is this best way to proceed ? Due to my age and sickness employer is trying to support me with an exit plan from 25 plus years of full time work .

I'm sorry to hear what you're going through. Generally, LTD benefits are there to protect you and give you some income if you're unable to work due to illness/sickness. if your doctors are recommending that you take time off work to recover, then LTD may be the right option for you. However, if you want to discuss ending your employment, you should speak with one of our employment lawyers ASAP to go through the ramifications of that choice, before making any decisions with your employer. You can contact them at 1-855-821-5900.

If you run into any difficulties with your insurance benefits, please contact us again and we will help.
